Event Details

This year, we are pleased to present author, actor, and philanthropist, Mr. Blair Underwood!  A charismatic and versatile actor, Blair Underwood has found success in television, on stage and screen, in the literary world, and in his personal life. His success has been shaped by the underlying belief that you must diversify yourself and remain as flexible as possible in order to achieve longevity in the acting business. But an acting career spanning 30 years is only one facet of Underwood’s wildly varied achievements — his forays into philanthropy, activism and advocacy for causes ranging from mental illness, diabetes, muscular dystrophy and HIV/AIDS has made him one of the most well-rounded and respected faces in Hollywood, Washington, D.C. and around the world.Mr. Underwood will discuss his latest literary work, Olympic Pride, American Prejudice (available February 4, 2020) which tells the astonishing, inspirational, and largely unknown true story of the eighteen African American athletes who competed in the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games, defying the racism of both Nazi Germany and the Jim Crow South.  Olympic Pride, American Prejudice is full of emotion, grit, political upheaval, and the American dream. Capturing a powerful and untold chapter of history, the narrative is also a celebration of the courage, commitment, and accomplishments of these talented athletes and their impact on race, sports and inclusion around the world.  We look forward to seeing you there!
